Frequently Asked Questions
Celebrating High Tea Baby Shower on the Sunshine Coast are fun events, filled with laughter, activities, gifts for the baby and advice for the parents-to-be. The origin of baby showers cannot be pinpointed exactly, but many people believed this practice dates back to ancient times. During the Victorian Era, the Baby Shower was simply a Tea Party, held in the afternoon. The guests were the closest female friends of the mother-to-be, and they would gather together to talk, to wish the new mummy good luck and give small gifts for the child. It was a simple and quaint event.
Baby Showers were very popular in the US but are becoming more and more popular in Australia. Here are several popular Baby Shower traditions:
- Historically, Baby Showers was hosted by someone who was outside the Mother-to-be’s family, such as a friend or a close work colleague, but today, almost anyone can host the Shower, including Sisters, Aunties or Best Friends of the Mummy-to-be.
- Baby Showers are held when the Mummy–to-be is at least seven or eight months pregnant when her tummy is very obvious already.
- Traditionally, women were the only ones who went to the Party, especially during the early times. However, today, men, especially the Mother-to-be’s Husband or Partner, are also invited to the Baby Shower.
The planning is important; you want to have the baby shower at least four weeks before your due date so that you’ll have enough of time to borrow or buy any necessities for your baby that you still need – and there’s also less of a chance you’ll go into labour before the baby shower celebration.
Exactly whom to invite to your baby shower – close friends and immediate family only, work colleagues, your grandmother’s friend Betty, husbands and boyfriends – is completely up to you and the host. But for the most fun celebration possible, we suggest inviting only the people who are closest to you, so everyone truly shares in your joy, rather than feeling obliged to attend.
A baby shower is about celebrating a new life – and if people want to celebrate every birth, even if they have lots of children, that’s okay. If you feel strange about having a large baby shower when you’ve already celebrated childbirth once or twice before, consider our gender reveal celebration to reveal the gender of your baby with family and friends in a creative way.
